FUKUOKA (Jiji Press) — Kyushu Railway Co. , or JR Kyushu, said Monday that it will not run a total of 120 limited express trains over 10 days from Wednesday, due to the spread of COVID-19 among crew.
Thirty-eight train drivers and conductors have tested positive for the coronavirus or have been identified as close contacts, making it impossible to operate train services as usual, according to the company.
This is the first cancellation of trains due to crew’s COVID-19 infections, company officials said. JR Kyushu will refund the tickets without charge if customers cancel their trips.
Ten Sonic limited express trains between Hakata and Oita stations and two Kamome limited express trains between Hakata and Nagasaki stations will not run per day through Aug. 5.
