Japan marks most weekly new infection cases globally

GENEVA — Japan marked the most number of weekly confirmed new cases of the novel coronavirus in the world, with 970,000 recorded during the seven days through Sunday, the World Health Organization announced Wednesday.

Japan accounted for 15% of the global 6.61 million new cases, followed by the United States with 860,000, Germany with 570,000 and Italy with 530,000.
