Crown prince, princess visit children’s innovation exhibition

Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko visited a children’s invention and innovation exhibition at the Science Museum in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on Friday.

The Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation holds an annual exhibition that features creations by elementary, junior high and high school students nationwide with the aim of nurturing creativity in schoolchildren.

This year was the 80th edition of the exhibition and 696 creations were submitted, of which 34 received special recognition.

The crown couple looked at 14 works on display and spoke to the junior high school student who won the top award.

“How long did it take to make?” the crown prince asked the student.
