A senior member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Friday said he had no idea what the problem was regarding the connections between LDP Diet members and the religious group widely known as the Unification Church.

“If the party conducted politics under the systematic and strong influence of the group, it might be a problem. However, there is no such thing at all,” LDP General Council Chairperson Tatsuo Fukuda said at a press conference. “Therefore, I’m not quite sure what the problem is.”

The group is now officially called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.
